N900: A Gallery

Hopefully by now you’ve all read Dan Lane’s Really Mobile N900 opinion piece from last week (based on the development unit he ‘borrowed’ from Ewan Macleod), and, while we all sit around with baited breath (read: twiddling our thumbs) waiting for the actual release date, November 19th I managed to lay my hands on a production ready model to try out some of the imaging technology.

“…I find myself sitting here at my desk two months later cradling what is, in my not so humble opinion, the best mobile device that Nokia has ever produced.”

High praise indeed from Mr Lane. But when it comes to the camera, exactly how good is it?

Judging by these images, “Stonkingly good” isĀ  the answer.

You can check out more images on the designated flickr page, in the meantime: how excited are you about the Nokia N900?

  • excited about Maemo - yes
excited about N900 - not so much

i don't know, since using a capacitive Screen on my G1 Loan/my own Hero, i just can't get along with resistive Screens anymore. i'm also not too excited about the Battery Life, and therefore going to skip the N900 and wait for whatever Nokia has in Store for us in the near Future!

"stonkingly good" article mr. whatley ;)
  • Can't comment on battery life, but screen-wise I couldn't tell it was resistive... it is very good and the resolution it epic.
  • It's SO good, it's got Ben grammatically in a muddle!

Honestly, I didn't expect pics THAT good. "berry good" indeed!
  • Look... why you no listen? It good. It much good.
  • i do listen and i trust in what you guys are saying. i still did not have my hands on one, but those comments make me confident i'm having a good Time with it. I'm still disappointed from N97/Satio, those Screens are not the best
  • :-)

I was just winding Abul up... it's one of my hobbies! But yes, the N900 screen is far better than N97. I didn't see any probs with the Satio's, but I only had a very quick hands-on.
  • i'm spoiled Ben. i used G1 and now own a Hero, and its just 2 different worlds. i think you can tell from Experience where the Difference is ;) resistive Screens getting better day by day (thinking back in horror about the 5800XM), but you just can't compare it. thats why i'm looking forward to further releases! :)

This best turn out to be a good phone. I'm waiting till my contract is up before I get another phone (I say that every time, I bought 7 phones last year, to my shame). Am currently rocking a 3GS and it's pretty shweet. S60 bores me nowadays, especially with nokia being a dick about things like n-gage. Hopefully maemo = win though, I miss real buttons :(

common...stop pushing the date back, i want my phone now!!! AAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
I'm gonna be sitting in front of my door on Thursday lol

random question...why is that meet in london before the phone is out...surely it would be better to have it the day after everyone that pre-ordered it got theirs!!!
  • For me it takes good photos, but it's really big..it is almost two iphone..

    but globally a good phone
  • (I assume you mean thickness)

It is big, but I wouldn't have said 2 iPhones...
  • I hate you ... and nice pics :-)
  • I thought the optics in the N900 were the same as the N97. Would you say there was a noticeable difference in quality between the photos taken by these two? And, if so, why? Is it all about the software?
  • Similar, not the same. The focal length is slightly different from memory. Quality-wise I haven't seen a big difference, but the camera start-up and processing times on the N900 were much much faster when I did a side-by-side test with a proto N900.
  • Interesting. Thanks for the quick response.
  • You're welcome. I expect to have a production unit of my own next week, so expect more news on this.
  • Andy

  • That *is* good news... I really just want to get mine now....
