[Closed] Set our competition… Win a Nokia 5310!

Post image for [Closed] Set our competition… Win a Nokia 5310!

We’ve got some phones to give away courtesy of the nice people at the Nokia who were clearing out the cupboards and, yes, are still being nice to us despite what we sometimes say about them.

We’ve got an N97, an E75 and an E55 to give away, but we’re a bit stuck… How should we decide who gets them?

Here’s where you come in. We want to run a competition…

Update: Aaaannnnnddd…. we have a winner! Congrats and watch-out for an announcement on how you can win the N97, E75 and E55.

All you have to decide is suggest what people should do to win these handsets. The funniest, most inventive and most appealing will win a Nokia 5310… so leave your suggestions in the comments.

Entries are open until we update this post to say otherwise. The phones being given away are in great condition but have been used for demos.

how about a short 30 sec video explanation about why you would deserve a device and what you would do with it?! or maybe a really mobile project fanboy video!? :D

I think people should do different things to get different phones.
N97 – you can ask them to send idea for innovative widget and give prize to most innovation
E75 – Being Eseries phone, you can ask them to create short video showing how Email on E75 rocks !!!
E55 – Ask users to describe E55 if it was person , I really like E55 may be you can just give it to me only.

design a mobile phone i.e. What form factor and features would your ideal mobile phone have. touch screen, storage, screen transitions, built in Spotify? etc etc

design a mobile phone, what would be your ideal phone, what combination of features would it have etc etc

Send in a picture of your oldest / most battered phone. The worse the phone, the better your chances of winning!

Have them submit pictures of their girl-friends. Tits or GTFO.

OK… I’m loving the suggestions but none have got me leaping out of my chair screaming genius yet. Here’s a possible thought…

We need something awesome to replace the default 404 page on our spanky-new (technical term) blog layout. Ideas which could contribute an image or text for that would be good.

Nice ideas!

Interesting… Having seen that ancient brick you were waving around
at HoTMS you have to fancy your chances on that one, no?

Write something positive concerning new Nokia devices. Ha try that…….

Ben Smith February 15, 2010 at 17:54

Zing :-)

Here’s your 404 page image – a beautiful Peugeot 404!

Maybe suggestions on what Symbian should be or what Nokia should do next. Best answer wins.

Another option would be a Nokia pop quiz.

All 404s should just redirect to the greatest 404 in existence: http://www.b3ta.com/404 (let it run for a while…)

Matt Radford February 16, 2010 at 01:20

Since it’s for a Nokia, how about in a Finnish accent? ;)

Ok, one last post on this thread before I get booted off for trolling, this time with some actual competition ideas:

1) You’re Really Mobile’s Dad. Explain to Really Mobile how it should behave when it’s a grown-up, possibly with reference to currently grown-up mobile/tech sites

2) Pick the actors who will play the cast in Really Mobile: The Movie, and justify your choices.

3) “My Dear Nokia”
Express feeling in Haiku
iPhone not welcome!

Couple of ideas for the competition:
1. Get people to compare their current phone with their phone of choice from the trio. Let’s see if people can correctly identify the areas of improvement vis-a-vis their current phones. Although that might be a problem when people write in comparing their Snapdragons with lowly ARMs. ;-)
2. Ask folks to profess their love of all things Nokia – and I’m not just talking about cell phones. How has Nokia shaped their lives?
3. Run an online treasure hunt on TRMP (or on a 3rd party site if bandwidth’s an issue). Create puzzles and drop clues that lead to three different end points (the three phones) or alternatively, have just one contest in which the first three that get past the final hurdle win the prize.

As for the 404 page:
1. Get a flash/gif designer to create an N97 (N900 if you want to be overly geeky) to slide out, press the 404 buttons virtually and get your “sorry, this page cannot be found” error displayed on the screen.
2. For something that’s a bit simpler, get a static image of a phone that displays the 404 error on its screen.
3. Alternatively, you could just spoof link to a Rick Roller. You’ve just been served!
4. On a more serious note, maybe you could have an intelligent analyzer that suggests users about possible links that he/she might be interested in based on the textual content entered. Example – anything with google in it could auto create a link to articles that talk about the nexus one.

How about a simply, live video stream via ustream, or QIK, of a live draw, with names in a hat being drawn? You could use Ben’s Bowler hat too ;)

How about an AudioBoo competition? Entrants have to record an AudioBoo of the conversation they’d have if they could talk to the phone they want to win.
