Shopping at the OVI store…

by Ben Smith on 19th October 2009

A tale of woe about shopping in the OVI store… “Would you like a Hannah Montana screen-saver with that?”

It would be funny if it weren’t true.

Amazing. Congratulations.

Haha, priceless!

(Btw, I got an email from Ovi support once asking me for, among many other info, my passport number. Go figure…)

v4ry gud
i <3 hana mntna
whr u gt the scrnsvr? r day 3?

oh wait I'm not 8 either. Yep even more annoying I successfully bought gravity, tetris and sonic, returned my phone, got a new handset, same sim, same ovi account, can i redownload £15 worth of apps, can I buggery and to make matters worse they just sit there taunting me in the 'my stuff' section.

I tried to buy jokuispot – but couldnt find the premium verison, so just got it off their own site instead. Searching for last.fm was equally fruitless so off to their site i went. It's a shabby bag-o-shite.

Though i did manage to buy the worlds worst flight control clone for £1.50.

Ouch… that's grim. Same happened to me with some Gravity installs on long-term loan handset. In the end I just bought it again direct from the developer (who's app's so awesome I don't mind bunging a few quid extra).

Yes, it's like a 'idiots guide to identity theft'… Passport numbers, bank details…

What next? A vile of blood? :-)

Brilliant!

Brian Smith October 19, 2009 at 20:34

That's because licenses on the Ovi Store cannot be transfered from one phone to another. Every license is per-phone, not per-SIM, per-credit-card, or per-person.

gdigenis October 19, 2009 at 20:49

its funny because it is true.

the worst part about it is that if you read the fine print it says that once you buy an app you own it. the only way to get your money back is if the app is defectifve or not advertised correctly in terms of its features. if you want your money back you have to provide proof of purchase and it could take 30 days!! are they serious? why would i bother logging in if i will need proof of purchase?

Mac Morrison October 19, 2009 at 21:02

which is why i will never buy from ovi store again. well maybe some wallpaper ;)
imagine you spend £100 ? £200 ?
drop your phone? can you get ovi store insurance?

Oddly enough, it seems better today: searching for “voice recorder” now gives three possibilities. When I tried it the other day, I drew a blank (I was probably offered Hannah Monatana screen savers as consolation: I don’t remember).

Yay! They also seem to have fixed the N-Gage catalogue, which had been borked for the best part of a week.

I work at Nokia and I found this to be the funniest and most accurate description of the Ovi Store EVER.
